It's official, I'm the Farm Manager here at Windswept Farm!
We were in limbo for a couple of months wondering if the former manager (aka the hubs) would be selected for a full time job. The first one didn't stick, but the second one did and his first day was yesterday. Today will be his first full day in the local office instead of the Headquarters office in downtown PDX.
Now, the only problem with me becoming the farm manager this week is that I have to be mindful of my back as this week is also National Collection Week for Operation Christmas Child. Our church is the Central Drop Off Location for SW Washington. Also, I am a year-round volunteer and feel compelled to actually be present each day through next Monday (Nov 21). So, staying healthy is the goal for the week. Yesterday I did manage to strain my back a little, but I was able to still help out with schlepping shoeboxes.
As of yesterday I have already taken over the feeding of the critters. That was something that I only did in the evening when Tom had his short stint with another engineering company last year (it didn't last, but we weren't sad).
How did I strain my back? Well, yesterday I was fighting the young boars as they had gotten into the garage and Oliver totally had his head in the chicken mush :( That was totally my bad, I should have checked to make sure that the garage door was 100% closed. Give the swine even just a little bit and they will work together to slide that door open! So getting them out of there was more than I thought I would be able to handle, but I eventually got them out. The three younger boys aren't so bad, but Oliver who is 14 months old is very stubborn. He had an opportunity, and he was testing the limits yesterday to see if he could get back in there.
So, this week I'll just focus on getting settled into a new daytime routine and get some stuff done around the house. Starting next week I'll do projects and stuff to move my dreams forward. So many ideas! We started watching Justin Rhodes again and he is doing a video series call "100 Days of Building a Homestead." We don't need to build a homestead, but I do want to accomplish some stuff in 100 days. So that will start next week when my physical health will only affect my own projects and not OCC.
Me and the pigs are gonna be best friends...
